1951 Millers Dale Viaducts

This was a fantastic viewpoint of these two grade II listed viaducts. The nearer one is the original and perhaps the more graceful of the two with it’s three 29m wrought iron spans, it was completed in 1866. Increasing traffic necessitated the 2nd viaduct to be constructed in 1905. It is now really difficult to get a good view of the viaducts. This fine print was created by John Austin. The existence of two parallel viaducts is very unusual, I can only think of the Castlefield Viaduct area in Manchester (but it’s nowhere near as tall as these) This particular view should have been preserved but sadly it has become engulfed by trees (see below).

2023 Unfortunately “the view” is almost completely “lost” :(
